Petitions are being circulated for a proposed dog park at the top of the cove at Tecate and Bermudas. Is this an appropriate use of an area of great natural beauty? We should propose a more suitable location which would satisfy dog owners in need of more space and thus maintain the pristine nature of the park and preserve here in the cove. While dog owners do have a legitimate concern there should be some alterntive that would not affect the enjoyment of our beautiful neighborhood.
The City of La Quinta honored four local athletes on Friday afternoon: Arnold Palmer (pro golf), Albie Pearson (pro baseball), Brittany Reimer (high school track and soccer) and Cullen Wilson (high school soccer). Cullen is a Cove resident and shares some of his stories and dreams with us:
TALK BACK: Reader asks how to talk back…
May 15th, 2008
How do you post a new Talk Back topic. I think that is the most important part of this website and newsletter. That way you will really get the pulse of the Cove and the problems that exist. People just want to suger coat this area but there are a lot of problems that exist and need to be discussed. Thank you.
There are two ways to get your voices heard on laquintacove.org.
1. If there’s a topic already going, and you want to put in your two cents, just look under all the cute little boxes and find click on “Post Comments” . When you do that, you can create a new name or identity, so as to remain anonyous. We really like it when these conversations get going. Other residents, city staff, police, and other persons “in the know” often respond, getting better informatin out to the public, which is what this website is all about.
2. If you have a new topic, look at the brown topic list on the left side of your screen, and click on “Contact the Association”. Three moderators receive these communications, and can post them as TALK BACK. This gives others a chance to respond to a new topic.
BUT MOST IMPORTANT: SUBSCRIBE AND GET YOUR NEIGHBORS TO SUBSCRIBE!!! This way you’ll be notified of each and every posting and comment. And THAT’S how problems get solved!
ATTENTION COVE RESIDENTS-DOES ANNEXATION EFFECT YOU??????
May 14th, 2008
Let’s start a dialogue about annexation. This is an issue before our City that needs attention and understanding as it’s effects will be long lasting. Annexation is a process for incorporating more area into our City. During discussions with average residents there is a lack of information as to the process, how it works and what it means to our property values, City services and taxation.
Please ask yourself these questions:
* Would proposed annexation translate into new revenue sources for the City? No, to date residential developements have generated almost zero revenue for La Quinta.
* Larger City boundaries and population increase the strain on La Quinta police and fire. La Quinta residents should be aware that this annexation could mean reduced services for all residents or new City taxes.
*Even with developers paying a large fee to be annexed, it is a gamble as to whether the new areas will pay for themselves.
*Even if the City breaks even on the costs, what benefit does annexation have for residents?
*At a time when we are all concerned about the values of our property we see no way this could improve property values but is likely to reduce them.
Please read and comment on this issue. We (Cove) are a neighborhood of 5000 homes and our opinions and comments are important to City officials. There is a petition circulating against annexation and a signature is needed. Please contact this website by comment or email to express your support.

TALK BACK: Reader ripped off….
May 13th, 2008
This from reader TT:
My wife and I returned from a weekend on the coast to the cove . We took two minutes to look at our mail and retrieve the suitcases in our open trunk. It was stolen in that short time. I suggest we put more effort into stopping this kind of crime and less on dog catchers that sneak around the cove like enemies.
Let’s find a system to bait these criminals ( leave a trunk open with Obvious grocery bags full of ….rocks) and wait to bust ‘em. These criminals drive around constantly in the cove looking for opportunities to pilfer.!! I think they go in pairs with one car finding the goods and the guys in the next car swooping in. I hear this story often. I NEVER have seen a dog altercation and I’m out in the area twice a day. The only loose dogs I see are stupid little Chihauhaus. Let’s use common sense. Let’s put heavier fines on truely bad / biting dogs and more taxpayer money busting the insipid little punks ripping us off.
