VEGETABLE GARDENING IN THE DESERT
August 17th, 2008
During the last week, a subscriber wrote about information needed to start a vegetable garden. I (moderator) have been looking for information about that same subject. I have a small area in my yard that could be turned into a plot for this purpose but I am unsure about weather, soil, pests, etc. I have started to do some research but it is difficult to find the information that pertains to our local desert area. It would be wonderful to find someone who could write an article for the website on this topic and personalize it to our special area. IS ANYONE OUT THERE? In the meantime, I saw an article in a recent Desert Sun about the planting of squash and pumpkins. The link to this article is below. Let’s hear from our vast audience with some “tried and true” tips for vegetables in our Cove!!!

ATTENTION COVE RESIDENTS – WE NEED YOUR COMMENTS!
August 13th, 2008
As you know from previous posts, we have a street sign pilot happening in our neighborhood. There are samples of the proposed street signs starting at the corner of Obregon and Nogales. They continue on three corners westward. The City of La Quinta is soliciting comments to get a consensus for going forward with size and placement. Please take the time to observe the various examples and then respond to our website with your observations. This is a time when we have input on an improvement project in our community. Please, please do not be complacent and just complain when things don’t get done.
The Cove Neighborhood Association has worked hard to dialogue with City Staff and City Council to work on projects that help us. We need your observations and comments. We are compiling all of them and forwarding for the final report. Please be a part of the process and respond. Please also note that with these new signs eliminate the need for expensive and unwanted street lighting.

Talk Back: Cove Resident Seeks Info on Pets
August 10th, 2008
Lucinda writes:
I have heard that some people whose houses have been foreclosed on are moving and leaving their animals behind.
Has anyone else heard of this going on in the cove, and if so do you know if there is any civic or volunteer organization doing anything about this?
If this is true and nothing is being done I would like some ideas on what we as a community can do about this problem and other issues regarding animal care in the cove.
I will start be saying I think distributing flyers on different topics like “how to take care of your pet, and perhaps a community “Day in the Park” to help educate pet owners might be a start. What do you think?

Please post comments and suggestions to Talk Back and perhaps we can make a difference with this problem.
