The City bus trip to see the Padres was reportedly quite a fun trip.  There’s another one coming up, to an Angels game on September 25, leaving at 3:30 p.m.  Sounds like another good time!

Hi, I just read an article about a bill just passed by the California senate to make it illegal to retrofit the muffler on motorcycles to make them louder. This is an issue which I have dealt with the past 3 years in the Cove. There is a cyclist who passes our home daily before 6 am, his bike is deafening and he revs it as he speeds down the street. Almost daily, the noise as he passes sets off my neighbor’s car alarms. What can be done about this? I know that the decibel level is way higher than the cove accepts as legal. I would appreciate any guidance you can give me. We love the cove, but don’t think we should have to live with Harleys with no mufflers speeding within 20 feet of our bedrooms.

What’s going on at the Museum?

September 12th, 2010

It’s been a busy summer at the Museum with new features in the permanent collection (check out the new mural) and two continuing special exhibitions. The popular “PT Barnum and the Circus” and “Old Hollywood and the Desert Club” are still gracing the upstairs galleries.  The July opening of the Desert Club exhibit was a big hit as impersonators charmed the crowd in character roles.  There are some archived videos on this website.

In a joint venture with the Library, “Golden Age of Hollywood” film festival is in full swing, with three remaining films, “His Girl Friday” (Sept 15), “Night of the Hunter” (the 22nd), and “Captain Blood” (the 29th).  These are all free and begin at 1:30 with an introduction by Museum Manager, Johanna Wickman.  These are AT THE LIBRARY.

Two great science programs were offered free in June and July.  “Water Wonders” was well attended by lots of our young folks.

Nature Walks begin September 18

September 12th, 2010

The 2010-2011 Nature Walk series begins this Saturday with the topic, “Living with Nature – Attracting Wildlife to your Garden”.  These walks will take place the third Saturday of each month through May, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the shade shelter along the Fred Wolff Nature Preserve at Montezuma and Ensenada (also good parking on the Madero cul du sac).  This series is a cooperative effort of the City of La Quinta and the Stewards of the Fred Wolff Bear Creek Nature Preserve.

Children/family walks will begin in December on the SECOND Saturday at 9:00 a.m.  Watch for those topics.

ALSO, mark your calendars for a community service morning on October 9, when volunteers will “sweep” through the Preserve and the top of the Cove area in the annual cleanup effort.  More on that later….
