Here are the last two clips of the brand new fire station, taken before Saturday’s grand opening.  Fire Engineer Terry Misenhimer leads the walk-through and commentary.

At the grand opening, we were told that these bi-fold doors are more likely to resist jamming in the event of an earthquake.  Take a look.

The final interview that the Cove Neighborhood Association Steering Committee conducted was with Eric Frankson.  Take a look:

Unfortunately, candidate Dennis Lubas has been delayed from returning to LQ due to business issues, and will not be interviewed.  The other mayoral and council candidates can all be viewed in the archives (at the left) and begin on September 29.  We hope these clips give you an introduction to the candidates, and that you have had an opportunity to hear or meet them in person.  DON’T FORGET TO VOTE ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 2.  Check the back cover of your sample ballot for your precinct number and location.  If you are voting by mail, don’t forget to sign and date your ballot before mailing.

Saturday saw many city and valley dignitaries gather for the grand opening of the LQ Fire Station #32 at 52nd and Desert Club Drive.  This beautiful modern facility not only features the latest technology, but has room to grow.  Fire engines will no longer need to be stored outside, due the the small garages at the Frances Hack Drive old station.  Also response time is expected to be 30 seconds faster, due to the central location and the traffic signal at the corner.

In case you missed the festivities, here is a tour of the east side of the facility, filmed the day before the ceremonies.

Here is a lineup of our dedicated fire fighter staff at Station #32, as well as others throughout the city, introduced by Riverside County Fire Chief, John  Hawkins, at the dedication:

The Saturday Nature Walks are sponsored by the City of La Quinta Community Services Department and the Stewards of the Fred Wolff Nature Preserve.  Geologist, archaeologist and paleontologist, Harry Quinn, tells of his personal friendships with Cahuilla tribal families.

Harry Quinn leads Nature Walk

October 17th, 2010

Harry Quinn, local geologist and archaeologist, has shared special friendships with local Cahuilla tribes for many decades.  He shared his personal and professional knowledge with the Nature Walk participants on October 16.  Here’s Harry’s discussion of the lowly creosote bush:

Bighorn sheep sighting

October 17th, 2010

Sunday morning walkers along the Bear Creek Trail were amazed to see a beautiful bighorn sheep prancing through the storm channel on the west side of the Cove.  Proceeding from north to south, it clamored up the west embankment around 9:00 a.m. in front of the Ensenada rest stop, and continued  along the edge of the  channel until it was out of sight.  Another important reason to keep your dogs on a leash.  Sorry, the video taken in haste was not quick enough or close enough to share this unusual experience.

The Cove Neighborhood Association continues with interviews of mayoral candidates (beginning September 30) and council candidates (beginning October 11).  CNA does not endorse candidates, but only wishes to bring you an introduction to them, via this website.

In order that they were interviewed, here’s Linda Evans:

This is the fourth in a series of interviews with candidates for La Quinta mayor and council.  The Cove Neighborhood Association has recorded these clips to introduce you to the candidates.  CNA does not endorse candidates, but rather wishes to inform the public.  More information is available in the newspapers and at least one more candidates forum will be held at Trilogy on October 18, from 4-6 p.m.  It is opened to the public.

You can view the candidate  posts at this website, beginning on September 30.  If the early interviews have “dropped off the screen”, look for them in ARCHIVES September or October 2010.

Here is the first candidate that CNA interviewed for council, Tim Campbell:
