Roadrunners are ground cuckoos

Our favorite bird: geococcyx californianus, to some of you.  Want info?  eats large insects, snakes, lizards, small rodents ( sounds great) and (uh-oh) birds, including nestlings and hummingbirds.  Can run up to 18 mph on it’s four-toed feet (two toes in front and two in back….tracks look like an X).  HERE’S THE IMPORTANT PART: DO NOT FEED HAMBURGER TO ROADRUNNERS! Unnatural diet causes slow death by kidney failure.  Bables develop rickets and bone abnormalities which are fatal.

On Saturday, Eric Scott from the San Bernardino County Museum gave an entertaining and informative lecture and then visited our own “Jurassic Encounters” exhibit.  He was greatly impressed with the museum facility AND the exhibit.  He comments here on…..birds?
