July 24th, 2011
Andre shows us the grid that will enable him to accurately place the historical subjects in their proper places. AND introduces the elements of the mural. You will note a teensy-weensy slip of the tongue, when he states that the ancient Cahuillas planted dates. Of course, they were brought by ranchers at the turn of the last century. But you get the gist of it. What an amibitious project!

Summer reruns: A look back at the making of a landmark
July 13th, 2011
In April of 2008, local artist, Andre Blanchet embarked on the project of a lifetime: the painting of a gigantic mural on a wall in the newly built La Quinta Museum. At the age of 82, it was a challenge for this painter who called La Quinta his home for several decades. During the year-long project, during which Andre suffered a heart attack, over twenty short videos were taken. These showed the process from start to finish, quite a fascinating chronology, and were posted on this website starting that April. This summer, those very videos will be re-presented on Mondays and Thursdays. Tell your friends and budding artists to subscribe, so that can sample Andre’s charm, planning for this large artpiece and wonderful talent, and who knows…..somedaymaybe one of YOU will paint a historical mural that is 33′ x 13′ in size!
