February 1st, 2012
The City of LQ and Helix Disc Golf have teamed up to host this FREE event on Saturday, February 4 at 10:00 a.m. It will take place at the La Quinta Cove Oasis, which is above the Cove among the palm trees. If you don’t bring your own, extra discs will be furnished by Helix, so go to Tecate and Madero to register, hike up to the “course”, and join the fun.
There will be divisions for YOUTH (15 and younger), NOVICE, AND ADVANCED, with prizes for winners of games such as “closest to the pin” and “ring of fire”. Sound like fun? Come on up and find out!
Big First Friday at the Museum
February 1st, 2012
In celebration of Black History month, a group of talented musicians will focus on four pioneers who influenced music in the U.S.: Eubie Blake, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne and Paul Robeson. Interpreting these icons will be Yve Evans, Perry L. Brown, and members of E & J Movement. The entertainment and open house are set for 5-7:00, on February 3, and are free. However, recent presentations at the Museum have resulted in overflow crowds, so a) come early to get a seat and b) bring a wrap in case you are one of those seated outside in the patio.

Here you see the Infant CPR session, with infant “dummies” for each trainee. There was lots of practice and plenty of useful information during the day-long session. The session was held in the Emergency Operations Center at City Hall.

Nature Walk….. before the big blow
January 22nd, 2012
About twenty people joined Jeff Smith for “Stories from the Early Days” last Saturday. Although overcast at first, a rainbow (photo on the left, look closely) heralded sunshine well before the wind started to blow. We got a great overview of the history of our community, and the evolution of how the city arrived at TODAY. Next Nature Walk, February 18: “Wildflowers” so let’s hope for that rain! Sponsored by the City of LQ and the Stewards of the Fred Wolff Nature Preserve.
