Those who attended the September 9 grand opening of the California Pioneers exhibit were treated to a great history lesson on California’s role in the Civil War.  Who’d have thought???  Give a listen to a “Confederate soldier” telling the story…

And even though the pioneer enactors are long gone, the great exhibit is still there, covered wagon and all…

Katie Barrows led a group of walkers across the Bear Creek storm channel for a great look across the Cove and Preserve.  We also learned about “desert varnish”.  Next Nature Walk, October 15.  Walks are sponsored by the City of La Quinta and the Stewards of the Fred Wolff Nature Preserve.

Another enactor at the recent Museum opening was this gold prospector, who tells of his adventures in the gold fields.  Take a look:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXYFsauMkPk

And don’t forget, this great California Pioneers exhibit is free to the public on Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10 – 4:00.  Fun for the whole family….

There’s lots of fun to be had at the new “California Pioneers” exhibit, including a “three hoop” covered wagon, train depot (with telegraph) telegraph office (with telegraph), and lots of info besides.  Among the characters that entertained us at the exhibit was this cowboy:

In addition to GOLD at the grand opening, attendees were treated to history lessons and lighthearted stories by an array of enactors: Confederate officer, prospector, cowboy and…..here’s the station master: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eKQrg03gFI

This exhibit features a covered wagon, train depot, telegraph office plus lots of information and memorabilia on California Pioneers.  Come on down and check out the newest show in town….

Andre celebrates the end of 2008, with eight months of work on the mural….  This is the final video in the Andre Blanchet series.  Hope you enjoyed watching one of our landmark art pieces being created, a little at a time.  Andre finished in the spring of 2009, and was always very proud of the “pinacle” of this great body of work.  He exhibited for many years at the La Quinta Arts Festival, winning many awards across the U.S.  His many collectors across the world enjoy his historical and landscape waterolors in their own homes.  Andre died in April of 2010.

(Disregard that Christmas museum schedule……)

Sharon Snow, at the LQ Library, introduces this new space especially for middle and high school students.  It’s a great resource for research or for pleasure reading.  Turn your volume up a tad, after all, it’s a LIBRARY:
