Cove resident organizes donations to troops in Iraq
July 23rd, 2008
Volunteers for Heroes…..a project of the East Coachella Valley Peace Vigil
Everyone has been extraordinarily generous in contributing items and (cash for postage) to send donations to our soldiers in Iraq – so that they know their efforts and courage are not forgotten.
Today – July 21 – the last of the donated items was shipped to the Army officer in Iraq who will be distributing the donations to the men and women under his command in various outlying locations throughout Iraq.
Attached are photos of the soldiers opening the first batch of CARE packages.
208 lbs. of items in total have been mailed, including:
40 packages of beef jerky
47 bottles of Tapatio hot sauce
132 Top Ramen/ Instant Lunch
124 packets of chips, nuts and seeds
68 chapsticks
89 packages of candies
55 greeting cards for soldiers to send
38 pairs of socks/33 boxer briefs/6 T-shirts
menudo, coffee, microwave popcorn, cookies,
Cracker Jacks, cigarette lighters, pocket calculators, flashlight,
dice, bubble bath, body lotion, emery boards and Elle magazine
The project will be ongoing. Donations will be accepted at the monthly La Quinta Peace Vigils (August 6) and at the donation box at Old Town Coffee Company in Old Town La Quinta.
Thank you again very much for your generous support.
