Up to a dozen craftspeople, artists, and hobbyists will be selected to show their 2D or 3D works that will integrate well into a uniform exhibit representing the variety of creativity in the Cove.

Section 10.28.020 of the LQ Municipal Code:

A. No person owning, keeping or having in his or her care or custody any animal shall knowingly permit the animal, by any barking or other noise or sound, to disturb any other person’s peace and quiet. ….

B. No person, after being informed orally or in writing that his or her animal has by noise or sound disturbed any other person’s peace and quiet, shall fail, refuse or neglect to take whatever steps or use whatever means is necessary to ensure that the dog or animal does not again disturb the other person’s peace and quiet. (Ord. 415 § 1) (part), 2005)

For obvious reasons this code benefits owners, neighbors, and animals. No one wants to have their peace disturbed and their quality of life diminished. Often, a dog barks when the owners are not at home, either at work or away for the day or evening. Check with your neighbors to make sure your dog is not barking. It’s not good for the neighbors, and certainly not good for your dog!

Here is what you achieve by keeping your animal(s) quiet.

You fulfill your responsibility as a good neighbor.

You have a more content animal(s).

You have improved relationships with your neighbors .

You maintain the quality of the neighborhood .

Here are some tips for helping you keep your animals quiet.

Determine why your animal(s) is making so much noise.

They may be feeling separation anxiety. Try leaving a radio or TV on so the animal hears voices and does not feel alone.

They may be bored. Give your pet lots of attention when you are home, and leave toys to play with when you are away . This may help to alleviate the boredom.

They may be disturbed by off-site noises. A sturdy doghouse will not only protect your animal from the weather, but it also helps to subdue noises that may disturb your pet(s) A radio may also block noises that are disturbing to the animal(s).

Also, try keeping your animal inside when you are away. This is better for your pet, keeping them out of the elements ( particularly the hot weather), and it will avoid excessive barking that may occur in your absence.

Obedience training classes and books can be useful for learning how to keep your animal(s) quiet and teaching to behave indoors. Your veterinarian may also have some advice. For information on training classes try your local parks and recreation department . For do it yourself books try your local library.

If you are being bothered by an untrained animal , and you are not comfortable discussing training options with your neighbor, please contact the city and they will help you with this matter. (760) 777-7000
