This one is easy! Re-Elect Uncle Don

I want to ask that Cove residents send a message to the Mayor and council by NOT voting for any incumbent on the ticket. Current leadership condones the agressive tactics of code enforcement issues (in the Cove.) While everyone wants to clean up the Cove, carrying a big stick to do so is just wrong. Most residents are made to feel like second class citizens for not living in a gated community. The attitude of the city is that we are all scum and must be forced to “shape up, or else.” I was so proud of our city making the Desert Sun for wanting to throw an old woman in jail. That sure beats the usual garbage can patrol and Chihuahua round-ups. I hope this will get posted as it is all too clear where the moderator stands.

In response to John, there are four of us moderators and some times we agree and others we disagree. I can only speak for myself when I agree with you, John, that we all want to have the Cove look its best, to improve our image (which suffers from a lot of folks who think we are living in a third world neighborhood), and to live a contented life in this beautiful area. Since I have not expereinced first hand any bad attitudes from code enforcement officers or staff, I find it hard to imagine the reports I hear—not only from you, but from others. City staff (who read these postings) tries hard to walk that thin line necessary to interact with residents who are surely angry at the thought of having to make home improvements when they probably believe that their home looks fine (and it’s the others that need fixing up). My advice is for everyone to keep notes of their recollection of these confrontations, list the relevant issues, take a deep breath, meet again with the officer, or the officer’s supervisor, and on up the ladder. I don’t know the story of the old lady and the illegal garage, except what I read in the paper. I’m sure this will be resolved since a lot of us, and apparently at least one business) are always anxious to help when there is a hardship. Do we know if this is hardship case or just frustration with having to deal with a long-standing situation? AND, by all means, everyone, this is the time to speak out with your votes, no matter what issues you feel are important. We are still a small town, and our collective votes will tell the story on November 4.

I guess I need to correct myself: Let’s all vote for this guy, even IF HE HAS NOTHING TO OFFER, so we can stick it to the CODE ENFORCEMENT people for doing their job. That is a great PLAN! I look forward to him doing NOTHING for 2 years, as he needs to “FIGURE OUT SILVERROCK.” I also like how he “had a plan but didn’t want to disclose it” until he figures out what to do. The City of La Quinta is NOT the training wheels for incompetent people. “UNTIL I HAVE A GRASP”

I completely agree regarding the issue of the code enforcement which has been out of hand. I have constantly received notices on my house regarding one issue after another. I take pride in a clean looking neighborhood but constantly getting a citation for my trash & recycling bins being visible from the street is something I am sick of! I will be voting anti-incumbent across the board.
