Geology always draws an audience. Everyone was very enthusiastic and very impressed with the City of La Quinta for setting aside the Oasis area! Joe Migliore led the walk, starting at 7:30; he is a volunteer for the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, Friends of the Desert Mountains, and Living Desert. With the size of the crowd he spent the first part of the morning talking to everyone about local geology – earthquakes, San Andreas fault, mountain building – from the benches at the Cove Oasis. We walked up Bear Creek a short distance; the last of the group (about 20 people) stayed
until 9:45 or so.
