Plenty of action at Civil War re-enactment
November 19th, 2011
You still have time to gt out to Lake Cahuilla today (Sunday, 20th) for the interesting and exciting Civil War action. Sunday’s battles are at 11:00 and 2:00, with plenty to do in between….talk to all the “soldiers, the surgeon, blacksmith, camp seamstress” etc. There was a large and enthusiastic crowd at Saturday morning and here are some scenes:

Come out if you POSSIBLY can. Lots of fun, and a wonderful learning experience for kids. One child was heard to ask, “Who are the bad guys?’ Good luck on explaining that one…..
Another look at LQ Preparedness Party
October 26th, 2011
Here are some of the vendors that offered information and services to help us get ready for The Big One or other disasters. Take a look. http://www.youtube.com/user/CovePotato#p/a/u/0/sopOTr6CXcw
First Aid exercise at Old Town Disaster Preparedness Party
October 23rd, 2011
Old Town was the site for La Quinta’s first “Preparedness Party” to make citizens more aware of resources and preparations needed in case of a major disaster. Floods, power outage, earthquake, chemical spill….it COULD happen. In addition to incident vehicles from IID, fire department, and police, our local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) demonstrated techniques to assist in the neighborhoods should the need arise. A Civil War history lesson at the Museum opening
September 21st, 2011
Those who attended the September 9 grand opening of the California Pioneers exhibit were treated to a great history lesson on California’s role in the Civil War. Who’d have thought??? Give a listen to a “Confederate soldier” telling the story…

And even though the pioneer enactors are long gone, the great exhibit is still there, covered wagon and all…
Gold prospector at Museum opening (Sept 9)
September 18th, 2011
Another enactor at the recent Museum opening was this gold prospector, who tells of his adventures in the gold fields. Take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXYFsauMkPk
And don’t forget, this great California Pioneers exhibit is free to the public on Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10 – 4:00. Fun for the whole family….
Cowpoke at the Museum opening (last Friday)
September 14th, 2011
There’s lots of fun to be had at the new “California Pioneers” exhibit, including a “three hoop” covered wagon, train depot (with telegraph) telegraph office (with telegraph), and lots of info besides. Among the characters that entertained us at the exhibit was this cowboy:
Junior paleontologists at LQ Museum
July 22nd, 2011
These young scientists bring to a close the summer-long “Junior Paleontologists” program. AND the last few days to see our famous/infamous dinosaurs is upon us. This exciting “Jurassic Encounters” comes to an end (extinction?) on July 30, next Saturday. So if you haven’t seen it, don’t be left out. If you HAVE seen it, come down for another look. Monday – Saturday from 10 – 4 and it’s still FREE!
A great example of motherhood in our fair city….self-sacrificing, hard-working and setting a good example for her family.
