The golf-themed exhibit, “Sweet Spot” is up and running and will have it’s official opening on Friday, January 8 from 5-7 p.m.  Master club-maker Mario Cesariowill be present, along with the “Bob Hope Classic Girls” to launch this unusual exhibit.    Regular museum hours are Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10-4.  As always, it’s free for all ages….  The exhibit is co-sponsored by the La Quinta Arts Foundation, the City of La Quinta Museum, and the Historical Society.

The LQ Museum, LQ Arts Foundation, and the LQ Historical Society have  joined to bring an unusual series of golf-related events to our Museum.  In addition to the exhibit that is now open, mark these dates on your calendar (all free to one and all)

January 8: 5 p.m. opening reception and meet Mario Cesario, noted golf club maker for the stars

January 9: 10 a.m. Interactive golf activities for youth ages 6-16, “The First Tee”.  Limited to the first 30 reservations, call 777-7170

January 11 Round table discussion with Marion Cesario, Marlene Hagge, Dan Poppers, Greg Cesario, Ted Lyford, Jeff Johnson, Fred Scherzer, Dave Evans, Ken Venturi and others from 2-4 p.m.

January 14 Golf Fitness wih Dr. Hashimoto noon – 1 p.m.

January  23: Lecture by Judy Vossler on La Quinta’s Golf Legacy  10 – noon

January  30  Larry Bohannan of the Desert Sun will talk on “Reflections on the Hope Classic and Golf in LQ” at 10:30.

David Salk, an annual exhibitor of ceramics at La Quinta Arts Festival, displays not only his clay baskets, but also 45 of his beautifully preserved antique Cahuilla baskets. Take a look at the array of artists in the beautiful Old Town setting.  Lots of new exhibits, something for everyone.  There will be another in November…

Don’t miss the first show on Saturday, 10-4 in Old Town.  Many new artists and many more returning, plus music, and all the great Old Town restaurants and shops.  Free and fun!

Palm Desert is the home of Dr. Glenn Webb, a noted Japanese scholar and master of the Japanese tea ceremony.  La Quinta Arts Foundation and the LQ Museum sponsored this unusual event.  Along with his wife and several other trained “students of tea”, Dr. Webb lectured and then demonstrated the final 20 minutes of the 4-hour complete ceremony.  The “chaji” is a strictly structured partaking of tea and food, during which there is little speaking and every gesture and object have significance.  Although not a religious ceremony, the chaji focuses the mind on peace, harmony, and oneness with others.  For true practitioners of the ceremony, every day of every year has slightly different gestures and significance, including a distinct kimono for every day of the year!  Here is a short clip of Mrs. Webb making tea (grinding, ladling hot water, and whisking the tea to a thick froth).   She serves the first tea to Keiko Nakada, whose responses are also structured according to the chaji tradition.  Here’s part one:

The La Quinta Arts Foundation held a reception for artists at the opening of the “Tantalizing Teapots” exhibit at the La Quinta Museum.  The public is invited to see these unique works of art at no cost.
