TALK BACK ON STREET SIGNS

July 29th, 2008

From:  AW

I prefer the street sign pole location show at Rubio and Nogales and that the street signs have their own poles and not be placed on top of stop signs.  I vote for getting rid of the oblisks as they become damaged. They are not functional and I do not see the historical significance (perhaps the ones on Eisenhower could stay, they are at least a little nicer looking).  We could use the money saved each year from ongoing maintenance costs of oblisks to purchase some really nice, classy street signs for the cove.

I am hoping that we will upgrade the street signs to something other than the demo signs that are out there.  There are lots of street sign designs to chose from, this should be the next step in the process.

I agree with AW. The obelisks doesn’t have any function. The purpose of the street sign is to find the street, even in the night.
The new demo signs are boring. And too big. I live in the corner of Nogales and Obregon.

For those who have been inside many of the gated communities have seen a lot of beautiful signs. As long as the street name has good reflection, it doesn’t need to be big. The size of the old green signs are good enough.

The obelisks on Eisenhower are reflective and very nice looking. Why couldn’t all the street signs in the Cove be like those? I agree that the other obelisks are an eye sore. I too don’t see the historical significance when a guy comes around each year and stencils them. (No offence stencil guy!)

I love these little discussions that gently remind me that there are different takes on every issue…..all valid. Dialog is a good thing! I for one love the old oblisks and think the new ones on Eisenhower are gaudy and a waste of money. As for historical signifigance, how long have you people lived here? The oblisks date back at least to when La Quinta Cove was an undeveloped grid of dirt roads and may even be part of the original Palm Springs La Quinta Developement Company. We’ll have to do some research. Reguarding the new signs, I think they work well especially at night. I have seen brown reflective signs and they look much nicer than the green (an opinion….not a fact)

The purpose of the trial run is for the City to hear from us and presumably take our comments into consideration before the City Council makes the decision. If you all haven’t made the email to Pearl at city hall, get busy. Also, watch for the notice (at this website) as to when the Council will vote on this matter and GET TO THAT MEETING and speak/listen to your council at work. They want to hurry this along, so pay attention. My humble opinion is that big is OK, position is important, colors are a matter of taste, but reflection is ALL.

As a new resident, I vote for the oblisks with the new reflective paint. Anyone can have the standard street signs — our current signs are unique ! I would also suggest that residents could ‘sponsor’ signs, so those on their street could be the same as the ones on Eisenhower.
