Cove Residents – do you love to hike with your dog? This information is for you…

In the Coachella Valley, rattlesnake season is a year-round concern. Recent studies by Red Rock Biologics have shown that dogs and cats are 20 times more likely to be bitten by a rattlesnake than a human, due to their proximity to snake holes as well as their inquisitive noses. Village Park Animal Hospital is teaming with Natural Solutions to provide a Rattlesnake Aversion Training class on Sunday, May 24 for valley dogs who are at risk of a rattlesnake run-in. The $65 aversion training will train dogs to avoid the sight, smell and sound of a snake, and is advisable for dog owners who hike or enjoy walks close to mountain ranges. Rattlesnake bites can be extremely painful and even fatal, and while a vaccine is available to minimize the reaction to a bite, the ultimate protection is avoiding the snake completely.
