There are several dog lovers in the cove community. Why isn’t there a larger dog park in the Cove? Our big dogs need space to run free. There are a couple of vacant lots by the baseball park. Why not there?? Thank you.

  1. Coverunner Says:

Does the City of La Quinta own that land? If so is it already destined to some other use? If not,how would the City pay to cenvert it into a BIG DOG PARK? Does the City of La Quinta collect a DOG LICENSE FEE?

  2. Heard from a City Staffer Says:

The City owns acres of property where people can walk their dogs on leash.

In addition, there are two dog parks, each divided into two sections, for large and small dogs One is at the Fritz Burns Park.

A new dog park recently opened off of Seeley Drive and Miles(behind Homewood Suites). It is open and the City took possession of it in January from the developer. Again, there is a very nice area for small and large dogs (separate) to run off leash.

There are no additional parks in the works at this time.

  3. Dog Lovver Says:

If the Reader means the Community Park/Frances Hack Park, as the “ball field”, that land is all privately owned. And right across (north) from Fritz Burns Park, that trialgular lot will become the new Cove fire station in the future.

I’ve found walking on a leash is fine with my pooch, and for me….

    Correction. I’m a dog LOVER,

With all due respect, the dog park by Fritz Burns may be great for smaller dogs, however, for the big guys it’s a little tiny. I do run my dog on leash every morning, but sometimes she just needs to chase a ball. What about the area between Montezuma and the Bear Creek path? Can a part of that area somehow be fenced in?
