In the last month, Calle Temecula has been tagged and plagued by graffiti on electric boxes, obelisks, and even the very cute park on Temecula and Vallejo.

I have consistently contacted the city (via the form on the Cove Neighborhood website) and they have always come out to fix the problem. I mean by the next day at the latest.  Unfortunately the  equipment at the park on Temecula and Vallejo will remain defaced despite the cleaning efforts.

What surprises me, is that if I don’t report them (I live here only 30% of the week most weeks) nobody does.

Maybe we should start a campaign on our website: SEE GRAFFITI - REPORT GRAFFITI.

The La Quinta graffiti hotline is 760-777-7095. They respond quickly but need our help to know where the graffiti located. It’s our neighborhood, let’s keep it nice!

i just got an email about reporting cove graffiti… what i really want to know is why is no one watching their teenagers and younger kids! why are so many kids roaming the streets day and night causing trouble!!!! perhaps we need some type of curfew around here- seems crazy that no one cares about where they live.

  3. Moderator #2 Says:

Right on, Deena. Parents need to know what their kids are up to. That’s hard these days, but still…. There is a 10 p.m. curfew for under 18 (call the police in this case if you even suspect they might be under age… 800-950-2444 + mark option 5)) or call the school district if you think they should be in school (771-8612). We all have to be watchful

  4. Leslie Says:

These aren’t just kids…a lot of them are gang bangers “marking” their territory. My suggestion would be to start a neighborhood watch on your immediate block. Report ANY suspicious activity. Better safe than sorry!! Be aware of what is going on around you while driving or walking around the Cove. However, don’t be vigilantes. Stay safe. The police need our help in this tough economic time. We are the extra eyes and ears of our neighborhoods!!!

Some form of Neighborhood Watch is the ONLY way to protect the neighborhoods from not only graffiti, but burglaries and other problems. Call Tom Fowler at 863-8905 and he can talk about neighborhood safety. EVERY home in the Cove should be organized in some way: know your neighbors, recognize their cars and their kids, and have their phone numbers at hand. Work together to spot problems. It works in MY ‘hood. We MUST support the police by being alert and reporting any irregular happenings before something bad happens…..

  6. John Says:

In addition to the graffiti, the gang members mark their turf by hanging tennis shoes over the power lines. Please call to have them removed at once. If we get tough on this type of activity we can keep the cove moving in the right direction.

There is a clear effort by an increasing number of members of this community to turn it into Desert Hot Spring. Graffiti, Smoking Dope around Ghetto style bong fires, Homes in deplorable conditions, Illegal Garage Conversions, Junk… Junk, and more Junk disguised as so called “boats” and “cars” piled in the front lawn, neglected dogs that are barking through the night, and those garbage cans always out. If in the end they are successful is only because of the people that resist Code Enforcement and Tidiness of our neighborhood. Batavia style! “This is not a Country Club, no code enforcement; leave the poor lady alone in the unsafe Garage conversion.” GIVE ME A BREAK!
One example of the many, an individual that moved here about 8 months ago and couldn’t shut up about the awesomeness of the COVE has been forced to live next door to a situation where neglected teenagers are smoking pot in the driveway around a bong fire ghetto style, and a neglected dog that cannot stop barking at night. About 30 calls to Law Enforcement, Animal Control, and even Firefighters, have yielded no result. Well actually one, the teenagers next door were so annoyed at him for interfering with their POT consumption that they kicked down his mailbox into the street. Oh yeah… I almost forgot their garbage cans are always out in the driveway fully visible.
Needless to say that he cannot wait to get out.
Too many citizens live in full apathy. For others the main issue is the frigging “Doggie Park”… .Doggie Park, Doggie Park, Doggie Park…. Pleeeeeaaase. Pull you heads out of you bazzurks for a change and let’s finish the work of cleaning up this place. Let’s make it undesirable to live in for people that don’t want to behave in a civilized way.

Conan, what is your deal?!?! What do you think we are trying to do here? There are many different issues that the Cove faces. Not ALL of them have to be negative. Try to be a little more positive. Please don’t reply with a scathing speech about how bad the Cove is and how much you think I’m an idiot. We all have issues. I’m betting you will though. In the grand sceme of things a pot smoking neighhbor with a barking dog is the least of our worries. Start a Neighborhood Watch instead of complaining to a blog.

I guess we can feel lucky that we can work to promote a doggie park. If we were storming city hall saying , “crime, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime,” then we WOULD be in trouble. Thankfully we can afford to be working on amenities, not basics. Yes, the basics need work, but I’d rather lie awake at night worring about where to walk my dog, that if a bad guy were about to enter.

    I rest my case.

Start a Neighborhood Watch!! Take charge and make a difference instead of complaining about how messy the Cove is. Call Code Enforcement on ugly boats and cars on lawns EVERY day until there is something done. Call the police EVERY time you see someone smoking dope or gang bangers “hanging out”. Call animal control EVERY time a neighbors dog is barking excessively. Call the graffiti hotline EVERY time you see graffiti. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. Don’t be afraid of retaliation…this is the only way we can clean up the cove. If we don’t, the bad guys win. Blogs are a great form of communitcation, but if you really want to make a difference GET OUT THERE!!
